Memorial Day is here. And if Social Security is part of your monthly budget, you may be wondering whether the holiday is going to push your payment off schedule.
Here is the short answer: it looks like most recipients will be just fine this year.
Why the Holiday Matters for Your Payment
Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 25. The Social Security Administration is a federal agency, so its employees observe federal holidays. Banks also observe Memorial Day as a holiday, which can affect direct deposits.

The SSA’s own guidance is straightforward on this point. If your scheduled payment falls on a bank holiday or weekend, you should expect to receive it on the next business day instead.
When the Last May Payment Goes Out
According to the SSA’s official Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments for 2026, the final round of May payments will be sent out on Wednesday, May 27. Those payments go to recipients whose birthdays fall between the 21st and the 31st of the month.
After that, June payments return to the regular schedule. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are set to hit bank accounts on June 1.
What to Do If Your Payment Does Not Arrive
If your deposit does not show up when you expect it, do not panic right away. The SSA says your first call should be to your bank or credit union. Most late payments stem from issues on the bank’s end, not with the SSA itself.
If your bank confirms it never received the funds, then it is time to contact the SSA directly. You can reach them at 800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time. You can also call your local SSA office, though the SSA recommends checking their hours before you call.
Payment mistakes are rare, but they do happen. Knowing exactly who to call (and in what order) can save you a lot of frustration if something goes sideways.
