A new study by U.S. News & World Report looked at over 500,000 pet insurance records to find out which dog names Americans love most in 2026. The data covered dogs registered between January 2022 and June 2026, tracking trends both nationally and state by state.
The results? Some names feel like old friends. Others have a fresh feel that speaks to where popular culture is right now.
The Top Five Dog Names in America
Topping the list this year is Bella. She has been trading the number one spot with Luna since 2023, and this year Bella came out ahead. Luna held on to second place.
Coming in at number three is Max. Researchers noted that popular culture references in film and literature have helped keep that name in the running.
Rounding out the top five are two classics that never seem to go out of style: Coco at number four and Daisy at number five.
There is something comforting about names like Coco and Daisy. They have a warmth to them that fits the way most of us think about our dogs: not just as pets, but as members of the family.
