Dick Van Dyke at 100: His Gym Habit That Keeps Him Going

He turned 100 in December 2025, and Dick Van Dyke is not slowing down one bit. The beloved star of Mary Poppins and The Dick Van Dyke Show recently posted a video of himself on an inversion table to Instagram, captioning it simply: #keepmoving.

That little hashtag says a lot about the man.

Three Times a Week, No Excuses

Van Dyke told ABC News that he goes to the gym three times a week. And he thinks that habit has made a real difference. “I think that saved me from the pain,” he said. “That’s good advice for anybody.”

He is honest about the challenges that come with this age, too. “I miss movement. I’ve got one game leg from I don’t know what. And dance, I still try to dance,” he told the outlet. That kind of candor is part of what we have always loved about him.

His Secret Weapon at Home

Van Dyke credits a lot of his energy to his wife, Arlene Silver, who is 54 years old. He calls her a “health nut” and he means it as the highest compliment.

“She gives me energy. She gives me humor, and all kinds of support,” he told ABC News ahead of his 100th birthday.

A Hundred Years? Still Not Enough

When asked what it feels like to reach 100, Van Dyke gave an answer that is hard to forget. “The funniest thing is, it’s not enough. A hundred years is not enough. You want to live more, which I plan to.”

He also reflected on how playing older characters in his career looks different from the inside now. “I played old men a lot, and I always played them as angry and cantankerous,” he said. “It’s not really that way. I can speak for myself.”

Over a career that spans decades, Van Dyke has earned six Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and a Grammy Award, along with major lifetime honors. Not bad for a man who still has the gym on his calendar.

Keep moving, indeed.
