June is one of the best months to travel. Summer is just getting started, crowds haven’t peaked, and the weather across most of the world is at its finest. Whether you’re dreaming of a lazy beach week, a European adventure, or a road trip through the American heartland, there’s a perfect destination waiting for you this June.

Here are 20 wonderful places to consider, in the U.S. and around the world.

In the United States

Lexington, Kentucky

Known as the Horse Capital of the World, Lexington comes alive in June. Bourbon lovers will find excellent distilleries for tours and tastings. A visit to a working horse farm is an experience you won’t soon forget.

North Carolina

North Carolina offers a little of everything in June. Grandfather Mountain hosts Nature Photography Weekend on June 5–7. Boone welcomes the High Country Jazz Festival from June 10–14. Charlotte’s Taste of Charlotte Festival on June 5–7 shines a light on the city’s food scene. Asheville’s art community presents Art in the Park on three June Saturdays. And no visit to the state is complete without seeing the Biltmore Estate, set on 8,000 stunning acres.

Newport Beach, California

About 45 miles south of Los Angeles, Newport Beach offers mild, dry weather and a beautiful Pacific coastline in June. You can hike in Crystal Cove State Park, play golf, or take a boat tour past stunning waterfront homes.

Nashville, Tennessee

The Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium are must-visits any time of year. Nashville also hosts Juneteenth celebrations throughout the community, including fireworks, reenactments, a Restaurant Week highlighting Black-owned eateries, block parties, and festivals. The National Museum of African American Music is well worth your time.

Columbus, Ohio

Ohio’s capital sits about 140 miles southwest of Cleveland and is a pleasant destination in June, with temperatures in the low 80s. The Columbus Arts Festival on June 12–14 features more than 200 artists. Golf fans will want to catch the Memorial Tournament, founded by Jack Nicklaus, from June 1–7. If you have extra time, a side trip to Cleveland’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is always worthwhile.

Atlantic City, New Jersey

Visit in June and you’ll be just ahead of the summer rush. Atlantic City’s five-mile boardwalk is lined with restaurants, shops, and plenty of entertainment. Steel Pier, dating to 1898, is a classic amusement park with rides and panoramic views from The Wheel. The city’s jitneys, small transit vehicles that have operated for a century, run 24 hours a day.

Mackinac Island, Michigan

This car-free island in Michigan is a wonderful place to slow down. June’s mild weather arrives before the peak summer crowds. The annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival runs June 5–14 with walking tours, live music, a parade, and the coronation of the Lilac Queen. Horse-drawn carriages, homemade fudge, kayaking, and sunset cruises make for a leisurely, memorable visit.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Known as the Golf Capital of the World, Myrtle Beach’s 60-mile Grand Strand offers six popular beaches and 14 coastal communities. The Carolina Country Music Fest on June 4–7 is the East Coast’s largest four-day outdoor country music festival, featuring more than 40 performers. Live music plays at more than 20 venues throughout the area all month long.

Big Island of Hawaii

The Kona side is warm and dry, with ideal conditions for snorkeling, diving, or a night swim with manta rays. June 11 is King Kamehameha Day, celebrated with parades throughout the islands.

Guerneville, California

About 75 miles north of San Francisco, the rustic town of Guerneville sits along the Russian River. Johnson’s Beach is a popular spot for kayaking, tubing, and relaxing. Founded in the 1850s, Guerneville has a quaint downtown with antique shops, galleries, restaurants, and a summer farmers market. Nearby Russian River Valley wineries are open for tours and tastings.

Around the World

Toronto, Canada

Toronto’s high season kicks off in June with mild temperatures in the 70s. The Toronto International Jazz Festival brings 10 days of live music to downtown starting June 19. The Luminato Festival runs June 2–28 with performance art, theater, concerts, and interactive exhibits. Toronto historian Bruce Bell recommends the St. Lawrence Market, the oldest and largest food market in the city, dating to 1803. “There are over 80 vendors, and it’s very multicultural, which perfectly reflects the city’s population,” says Bell.

Fiji

June is Fiji’s shoulder season; warm, dry, and uncrowded before summer vacationers arrive. It’s paradise for snorkelers and divers, with colorful marine life among the coral of the barrier reefs. On land, rainforests, waterfalls, and lush hiking trails offer plenty to explore. Fiji’s cuisine reflects its multicultural history, with fresh seafood, tropical fruit, seasonal vegetables, and spices. Fiji Airways offers nonstop flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Dallas/Fort Worth through September 7, 2026.

Munich, Germany

June brings warm spring weather and flowers in full bloom to Munich. The city’s English Garden is a large central park ideal for strolling and biking. Munich was founded in 1158 and celebrates its birthday on June 14, surrounded by centuries-old buildings including Nymphenburg Palace. The Tollwood Summer Festival runs June 19 to July 19 with music, art, theater, and markets. Neuschwanstein Castle is a popular day trip just 73 miles from the city.

Loire Valley, France

Often called the Garden of France, the Loire Valley is at its most beautiful in June. Mild weather makes it ideal to visit the region’s iconic châteaux and taste its excellent wines, including Sancerre and Vouvray. A June 6–7 event at Château de Villandry highlights the gardens and parks of France. You can also take a boat ride on the Loire River, float over the valley in a hot air balloon, or explore troglodyte caves carved into limestone cliffs. Paris is just a 130-mile drive or one-hour train ride away.

Peru

June marks the start of Peru’s high season, with dry conditions ideal for outdoor exploration. Machu Picchu, the ancient Lost City of the Incas, remains a once-in-a-lifetime destination, though daily visitor limits are now in place. Other ancient sites are worth visiting too, including Caral, located about 110 miles from Lima. Northern Peru offers opportunities to explore centuries-old ruins without crowds. Peru’s coast is home to the Grau Tropical Sea National Reserve, which protects remarkable marine life.

Greece

Greece has around 6,000 islands, each with its own character. June is the ideal time to go, before the peak summer crowds arrive, and with some planning, it’s possible to visit on a budget. Ancient history, beautiful beaches, lively towns, and quiet getaways are all available, from Mykonos and Santorini to more secluded spots. In Athens, the Acropolis and the Parthenon are unforgettable. Greece is bordered by the Aegean, Mediterranean, and Ionian seas, offering stunning scenery at every turn.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

June in Amsterdam means mild weather and up to 16 hours of daylight. The Holland Festival continues throughout the month with music, theater, dance, and art. Open Garden Days on June 19–21 offer a rare peek behind the canal houses at private hidden gardens. The Bite of Amsterdam food festival runs the same weekend in Amstelpark. Cruise the canals, bike around the city, or picnic in Vondelpark.

Roatán, Honduras

This Bay Island of Honduras sits along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef system in the world. June brings temperatures in the 80s, white-sand beaches, and clear waters perfect for snorkeling, diving, and exploring shipwrecks. At Gumbalimba Park and Daniel Johnson’s Monkey & Sloth Hangout, you can see monkeys, macaws, iguanas, and sloths up close. A day trip to Little French Key offers water sports, pristine beaches, and fascinating wildlife. The Garifuna village of Punta Gorda is the oldest community on the island.

Tasmania, Australia

The mountainous island of Tasmania lies about 155 miles south of mainland Australia. Its natural beauty includes waterfalls, lakes, national parks, wineries, and some of the world’s oldest forests. In Hobart, the midwinter Dark Mofo festival celebrates the longest night through art, food, music, fire, and light, running June 11–22. Freycinet National Park features pink granite peaks, sandy beaches, and wildlife.
