New on Hulu This Week: Top Movies & Series (Oct 5–11, 2026)
October 7, 2026 — 65Nation
Hulu’s new arrivals for October 5 to 11, 2026 are mostly about series. There’s only one new movie, a horror film, but the series side has a cozy Canadian detective show, the return of a much-loved sitcom and two gentle romances from Asia. Here’s what’s worth your time if you’re 65 or older.
Highlights for the Week
What’s the best new series on Hulu this week for older viewers?
Private Eyes (Oct 6). Jason Priestley plays a former hockey player turned private detective, and every episode wraps up a case. It’s rated TV-PG and there are five-plus seasons to enjoy. Abbott Elementary also returns for Season 6 on Oct 8.
Are there any new movies on Hulu this week?
Just one: Hokum (Oct 10), an Irish horror film with Adam Scott. It’s genuinely frightening, so most of our readers will want to skip it.
Is there something romantic and gentle to watch?
Merry Berry Love (Oct 7) is a sweet romance set on a Japanese island with a strawberry farm. It’s subtitled, but it’s soft, scenic and easy to settle into.
Top New Movies on Hulu This Week
Only one new movie arrived on Hulu this week.
Oct 10 – Hokum (2026)
An Irish folk-horror film from NEON, directed by Damian McCarthy. Adam Scott plays a novelist who travels to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes and becomes obsessed with stories about a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. David Wilmot and Peter Coonan co-star.
It’s well made, and Adam Scott fans may be curious. But reviewers call it seriously frightening, and it’s built to make you jump. Unless you love horror, this one is easy to skip.
Top New TV Series on Hulu This Week
Oct 5 – Between Steps (2026)
A new Korean romance. A former swimmer who lost his leg now works in robotics, and he meets a textiles student who finds her own passion for the field. It’s the last series from director Ahn Pan Seok, known for slow, grown-up love stories like Something in the Rain.
The leads are young, so it skews a bit younger than our other picks, but the pace is calm and the tone is kind. It’s in Korean with subtitles and new episodes roll out through the week.
Oct 6 – Private Eyes (2016)
Jason Priestley, yes, from Beverly Hills 90210, plays Matt Shade, a retired pro hockey player who goes into business with a no-nonsense private investigator, Angie Everett (Cindy Sampson). Each episode is a self-contained case.
This is our top comfort pick on Hulu this week. It’s rated TV-PG, funny without being silly, and there are dozens of episodes to work through. Think of it as Moonlighting with a Canadian accent.
Oct 7 – Merry Berry Love (2026)
A Korean and Japanese co-production. After losing everything, a Korean designer (Ji Chang Wook) goes to a small Japanese island and meets a strawberry farmer (Mio Imada). The season runs 10 episodes, released weekly.
It’s gentle, pretty and slow in a good way, with lots of island scenery and farm life. It’s subtitled, mostly in Korean and Japanese. A nice choice for a quiet evening.
Oct 8 – Abbott Elementary (2021)
Season 6 of Quinta Brunson’s Emmy-winning comedy about teachers at an underfunded Philadelphia public school. Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Tyler James Williams and Janelle James are all back. New episodes air Wednesdays on ABC and land on Hulu the next day.
Anyone who taught, or raised kids, will laugh a lot. It’s clean enough to share with older grandkids, and Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Mrs. Howard is a gift. If you haven’t started, earlier seasons are on Hulu too.
