Best European Cities for Vintage Shopping Revealed

There is something special about a vintage find. A piece of clothing, a piece of furniture, a small trinket… something that has lived a life before it came to you. If that feeling resonates, you will want to hear about a new study that just ranked the best European cities for vintage shopping.

Clothing brand Kaiia conducted the research in September 2026, looking at 40 of Europe’s largest cities. They counted secondhand clothing shops, antique dealers, and flea markets. They also looked at how close those shops are to each other and what local clothing prices run. The goal was to find the cities that offer the most and the best deals.

The Top Four Cities for Vintage Hunters

Copenhagen, Denmark came out on top. The city has 200 vintage shops, more than 100 antique dealers, and over 45 weekend flea markets. For anyone who loves a good dig, Copenhagen delivers on every front.

Amsterdam, Netherlands ranked second. With 191 vintage shops in close proximity, Kaiia describes it as a dream for anyone who likes to browse on foot. You can wander from shop to shop without traveling far.

Berlin, Germany came in third and it may be the most impressive of all for sheer variety. The city has 326 vintage shops and what the study calls one of the biggest thrift scenes in Europe. On weekends, Berliners take it a step further, turning the whole city into what the study describes as one big stall to dig through.

Prague, Czechia rounds out the top four, and it is the pick for budget-conscious shoppers. Clothing prices in Prague run about 4 percent below the EU average, which makes the secondhand stores even more affordable than those elsewhere in Europe. The city also has more than 80 antique shops known for one-of-a-kind souvenirs and finds.

A Few More Cities Worth Knowing

The study did not stop at four. Helsinki, Finland; London, United Kingdom; and Stockholm, Sweden also made the top ten. So if your travels are taking you anywhere in northern Europe, there is a good chance a great secondhand shop is nearby.

Kaiia’s fashion expert noted that secondhand shopping across Europe has grown even more common in recent years. Since January 2025, every EU country has been required to collect used clothing separately from regular trash, which means fewer wearable items end up discarded. According to the expert, that also gives clothing brands a financial reason to make pieces that last and keeps more quality items moving through thrift stores and vintage shops.

So if a European trip is somewhere on your list, it may be worth planning a morning around the local flea market. Some of the best things you will ever bring home were not made yesterday.
