Start at Their Eye Level
Before younger grandchildren arrive, walk through your home the way they will experience it. Get down to their eye level and move through the living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and any other areas they will have access to. You will spot things you would never notice standing up.
It is the single most useful thing you can do to get the house ready for small visitors.
Think About the Backyard, Too
If the yard needs any attention, take care of it beforehand. Getting routine lawn tasks done before the grandkids show up is a smart move. And once you are done, make sure the mower, any lawn treatments, and gardening supplies are organized and stored somewhere the children cannot get to them.
That way, the backyard is ready for play and the shed stays off-limits.

A grandkids weekend is one of the best things going. The noise, the energy, the bedtime negotiations, all of it. A bit of advance planning just means you spend more of that time enjoying it and less of it scrambling.
