Sep 1 – Jerry Maguire (1996)

Tom Cruise plays a slick sports agent who has a crisis of conscience, loses almost everything, and rebuilds his career and his life with the help of a devoted single mother, played by Renee Zellweger. Cuba Gooding Jr. won an Oscar for his supporting turn.

It is a warm, funny, romantic story with a big heart and a few lines you will remember for good. There is a little strong language, but nothing graphic. A thoroughly satisfying evening’s watch.

Sep 1 – Moneyball (2011)

Brad Pitt plays Billy Beane, the real-life manager of the Oakland Athletics who built a winning team on a tiny budget by trusting the numbers over the old scouting wisdom. Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman are excellent alongside him.

You do not need to follow baseball to enjoy this. It is really a story about believing in a better way of doing things, and it is smart and moving throughout. Clean, absorbing, and well worth your time.

Sep 1 – See How They Run (2022)

Set in 1950s London, this playful whodunit follows a weary inspector and an eager young constable, played by Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan, as they investigate a murder tied to a hit stage play. It has the feel of an Agatha Christie mystery with a wink.

If you love a clever murder mystery that does not take itself too seriously, this is a delight. The tone stays light and the violence is minimal. A stylish, good-humored choice for fans of the genre.

Top New TV Series on Hulu This Week

Sep 2 – Queen of the South: Seasons 1-5 (2016)

All five seasons of this crime drama arrived at once. It follows a woman who flees Mexico after her boyfriend is killed and slowly builds power within the very world that nearly destroyed her, played with real steel by Alice Braga.

This is a gripping, well-made series, but it is the most intense pick on this week’s list. There is drug-world violence throughout, so it is for viewers who do not mind that. If that is your kind of drama, there is a lot here to sink into.

Sep 3 – Chad Powers: Season 2 (2025)

Glen Powell plays a disgraced former quarterback who dons a disguise, adopts the name Chad Powers, and talks his way onto a struggling college football team. The new season follows him trying to keep the ruse going as the wins pile up.

It is a broad, good-natured comedy with a sports backdrop, so it lands well even if you are not a football fan. The laughs are gentle and the spirit is sweet. A fun, undemanding way to pass an evening.

Sep 4 – Tracker: Season 3 (2024)

Justin Hartley stars as a lone-wolf tracker who travels the country helping to find missing people and solve small mysteries, collecting reward money as he goes. Each week brings a fresh case and a new corner of the map.
