New on Hulu This Week: Top Movies & Series (Oct 12–18, 2026)
October 14, 2026 — 65Nation
This is what is new on Hulu in the US for the week of October 12 to 18, 2026, picked for viewers 65 and older. The whole Hunger Games movie series arrives, and some old network favorites are back for new seasons.
Highlights for the Week
What is the best new series on Hulu this week?
The Lowdown Season 2, arriving October 14. Ethan Hawke returns as a Tulsa bookseller turned amateur reporter, and Tommy Lee Jones joins as his father. That is a pairing worth tuning in for.
Are the Hunger Games movies good to watch with teenage grandkids?
They are a good shared watch with teens. The Hunger Games (2012) and Catching Fire (2013) are PG-13 and arrive October 14. They do involve young people fighting to the death, so they are better for teens than for younger children.
Are my network dramas back?
Yes. Grey’s Anatomy Season 23, 9-1-1 Season 10 and 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 all premiere on Hulu October 16, the day after they air on ABC.
Top New Movies on Hulu This Week
Oct 14 – The Hunger Games (2012)
Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, a teenager who volunteers to take her little sister’s place in a televised fight to the death. Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland and Stanley Tucci are in the cast.
It is a strong story about courage and family, and teen grandkids will likely know it already. The PG-13 violence is mostly implied, but the premise itself is grim, so it is not for young kids.
Oct 14 – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Katniss and Peeta are forced back into the arena for a special anniversary edition of the Games. Philip Seymour Hoffman joins the cast as the new head gamemaker.
Many people think this is the best of the series. It is a little darker than the first one but keeps the same PG-13 rating. Watch the first film beforehand.
Oct 14 – The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
A prequel set 64 years before Katniss, following a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and the singer he mentors (Rachel Zegler). Viola Davis and Peter Dinklage co-star.
Viola Davis clearly has a great time as the villain, and the music is a nice surprise. It runs over two and a half hours, so pace yourself.
Oct 18 – Companion (2025)
Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid star in a twisty sci-fi thriller about a weekend getaway with friends that goes badly wrong. It is best to know as little as possible going in.
It is clever and full of surprises, but it is R-rated with bloody violence and strong language. Good for viewers who like a sharp thriller, not for a family night.

Oct 14 – The Lowdown Season 2 (2026)
Ethan Hawke returns as Lee Raybon, a Tulsa rare-book dealer and self-styled “truth-storian.” This season he teams up with a public defender (Betty Gilpin) to find her client, who has gone missing from prison. Tommy Lee Jones plays Lee’s father, and Keith David is back too.
It is a smart, offbeat mystery with a lot of heart and humor. There is some language and violence. Tommy Lee Jones alone makes it worth a look.
Oct 16 – 9-1-1 Season 10 (2026)
The Los Angeles first responder drama is back for a tenth season, with Angela Bassett leading the crew through another round of over-the-top emergencies.
It is comfort TV for many of us: big rescues, a team that feels like family, and a satisfying wrap-up most weeks. Some rescues get intense.
Oct 16 – 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 (2026)
The country-music spinoff returns, with Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw and LeAnn Rimes as part of a Nashville firehouse family.
If you liked the original, this one has the same mix of rescues and family drama, plus a bit of a country flavor.
Oct 16 – Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 (2026)
TV’s longest-running medical drama is back for Season 23 at Grey Sloan Memorial, with new doctors, old faces and plenty of romance.
Longtime fans already know what they are getting, and that is the point. It is cozy, familiar viewing, with some surgical scenes that can get graphic.
